Every pumpkin we place comes from small growers within a few hours of Chicago. We hand-select for shape, color, and stem character before anything reaches a porch — the same way we'd choose one for our own front door.

The one we left for you is a keepsake, not part of the display: something small to enjoy on its own.

A few ways to make it last.

• Keep it cool and shaded. Direct afternoon sun softens the skin faster than you'd expect.
• Leave it whole. An uncarved pumpkin can hold its shape for two to three months.
• Wipe, don't wash. A cloth with a little diluted vinegar keeps early mold spots away.
• Let it retire well. Once it's past its best, it composts beautifully — nothing wasted.

• What varieties of pumpkins do you use?

  We work with traditional carvers, medium, large, and extra-large orange pumpkins, along with specialty and heirloom varieties, mini pumpkins, and gourds. Every display is a unique, curated mix.

  No two pumpkins are ever quite alike — and that's the point. Every pumpkin in your display is a living, growing thing before it ever reaches your porch: it drank rain, caught sun, and grew its own one-of-a-kind shape, ribbing, and coloring right there in an Illinois field. That's why our heirloom varieties like the ghostly-pale Ghost White, the deep-blue Atlantic Blue, or the wild Tiger Stripe never look mass-produced — because they aren't. We hand-select each one for character, not uniformity, so your display has real texture and personality instead of a row of identical orange spheres. It's less like ordering a product and more like curating a little seasonal garden for your front door.

• Can I request a specific color palette?

• How long will my display last?

  With proper care, your pumpkins should hold through the full fall season into November.

• What if a pumpkin gets damaged before installation?

  It's rare, but if a pumpkin arrives damaged or is disturbed shortly after installation, text us a photo and we'll replace it at no charge within the first week. After that window, ongoing wildlife activity is a normal part of an outdoor fall display and keeps things looking their best through the season.

• How do I keep critters away?

  Since these pumpkins are ultimately headed to a pig farm to be holistically recycled, the safest approach is to focus on physical barriers and scent deterrents that stay off (or are easily wiped off) the pumpkin flesh, rather than anything oily, petroleum-based, or chemically irritating that could linger and cause GI upset for the pigs. Here are a few cayenne-free, holistic options:

  • Peppermint or eucalyptus oil. Squirrels, raccoons, and rabbits dislike the strong menthol scent. Soak cotton balls in diluted oil and tuck them near (not directly on) the pumpkins, or lightly mist the display area rather than saturating the fruit itself. Reapply weekly as the scent fades.
  • Garlic spray. A blend of chopped garlic, water, and a splash of vinegar creates a smell squirrels find repulsive. It's organic and won't leave anything toxic behind, though it needs frequent reapplication, especially after rain.
  • Diluted vinegar. The strong acetic scent deters squirrels and other critters. Best practice is to place small bowls of vinegar near the display rather than spraying it directly on the pumpkin skin, since concentrated vinegar can damage the rind. If using as a spray, keep it dilute (about 1 part vinegar to 10 parts water) and wipe the pumpkin down before it goes to the farm.
